March 6, 2021

The 2021 edition of the Strade Bianche featured 63 kms of gravel roads across 11 different sectors.

After a day full of attacks, and with only 24 kms to go, Mathieu van der Poel put in a massive attack.

Only Alaphilippe and Bernal could stick with this move.

It immediately became clear that the win would go to one of the three out front. The three riders hit the final climb and covered the first hundred meters together, but

van der Poel put in a devastating attack and took his first Strade Bianche victory.

Alaphilippe finished second and Bernal third.

After the race van der Poel uploaded his full ride data to Strava.

These data revealed the enormity of his performance:

in his final attack, Mathieu reached his peak power of the day: 1.362 watts.

After that, he continued at 1.105 watts for 15 seconds and averaged 556 watts for the remaining 1 minute and 23 seconds of the climb.

The 189 kilometers were covered in 4 hours and 45 minutes, good for an average speed of 39.2 km/h. With an average of 319 watts, Van der Poel delivered an extraordinary performance.

These products include a nice collector's postcard.
